My Story
Dance is the connective tissue joining my passions for lifelong learning, creativity, and social impact.
Hi, I'm Hamida, an Atlanta-based dancer and culture educator specializing in Brazilian samba and Afrodance, my work grounded in Afro-rooted culture and history.
I'm passionate about spreading the contagious joy of movement, whether I'm leading workshops, dancing casually with friends, or performing at an event.
I've been immersed social dance my whole life, exploring hip hop, salsa, and other Afro-diasporic styles. But my journey with samba began in 2011.
In 2010, I moved to Lisbon, Portugal, where I taught English to working professionals. The vibrant Brazilian community in the “City of Seven Hills,” along with the influence of my late father (who lived in Brazil for many years), deepened my connection to Brazilian culture.
After returning to the U.S., I trained and performed with Vava United School of Samba in Washington, DC. During the pandemic, I joined Miamibloco in South Florida, where I became the group’s samba instructor, launched its dance wing, and performed at major festivals and venues.
Creative movement has always been part of my story -- from dancing to my dad’s vinyl as a kid to exploring dance electives in college to tearing up hip hop dance floors after graduation. Alongside dance, I work as a communications strategist, lending my voice to causes and communities I believe in.
In addition to my dance work, I hold a Master’s degree in International Education, a Bachelor’s degree in English Literature, a CELTA certificate in English language teaching, and two fellowships in environmental journalism.
