My Approach
Hi, I’m Hamida, a dance maker and teaching artist exploring movement and cultural exchange through dance, music, and community.
I invite curious movers to step out of their comfort zones, reconnect with their bodies, and experience dance as something social, alive, and profoundly freeing.
My teaching style is high-energy, nonjudgmental, and centered around participation over perfection.

Samba Starters
BEGINNERS
Samba is life! Samba is joy! If you're new to samba dance, this class is for you. Learn the basic footwork, arm movements, and hip rotations at a beginner's pace. I'll break down each move step-by-step, and we'll drill them together. I’ll also teach you a short samba sequence that includes a walk, turn, scissor, box step, and more, and we will take time to practice it.
This class focuses on samba no pé, the most popular form of samba dance.
Samba Improvers
Intermediate
If you are already confident with samba basics and eager to level up your skills, this is the class for you. We’ll focus on form, technique, stamina, and creativity. In each class, we'll drill improvements to arms, footwork, and hips. I’ll also show you how to insert several moves into your samba, such as travel, balanço, afunda, and tranca. And we'll practice an intermediate routine.
This class focuses on samba no pé, the most popular form of samba dance.

We'll start by practicing sequences together then shift into a high-powered routine.
Samba: Echoes of Resistance
ALL LEVELS
This interactive lecture-demonstration explores samba as a past and present form of resistance for Afro-Brazilians. The event starts with a visual presentation on a select topic (ex: The Roots of Samba Reggae). Then, I'll demonstrate the dances, inviting participation. The format of this class can be tailored to your group's needs, with the option to emphasize either movement or lecture more heavily.
NEW! Dance Teambuilding
For companies, nonprofits, & industry groups
Drawing on my skills as a dance instructor, language teacher, and communications expert, I'll guide your group through an adventure in camaraderie, creative collaboration, and rhythmic fun.
The workshop kicks off with icebreakers and a movement warm-up to help team members get fully engaged. Then, I'll guide the group through an energetic, harmonized dance routine, culminating with a chance for the group to showcase their skills in small groups or together as a class.
